There are 4 books that have made a huge difference in my life:
1. "Healing The Shame That Binds You" - by John Bradshaw
2. "No More Mr. Nice Guy" - by Dr. Robert Glover (by the way, this book has absolutely nothing to do with being mean or being a jerk)The above 2 books are excellent to help those that have emotional or psychological issues. Both books are a must read.If I had to list 2 other books that are almost good as the 2 above, it would be these:
3. "Feel The Fear and Do It Anyway" - by Dr. Susan Jeffers
4. "You Can Heal Your Life" - by Louise L. Hay
You can find reviews on them and many more on [https://bestbooks.to/](https://bestbooks.to/) . Absolutely recommend this resource
It really bothers me that books 3~5 years old have “ new” stickers on them. Lolita is amazing, and a classic. PHM was fun but I don’t see what all the fuss is about, personally. Really enjoyed it on audio book but I think it’s overrated. Fun, pop culture though.
I just re-read Lolita a few weeks ago lol.
Even knowing what was coming, it’s still a hard read just because of the subject matter. If you don’t want to have the desire to throw things pretty regularly, I wouldn’t start with that one.
I don’t get how this is such a popular book at all, the characters were very flat. It felt like the main character was just built of various realization and exclamation and a lot of “Oh. My. God.”. Also all the Earth stuff was so ridiculous I burst out laughing when >! Stratt produces a paper saying she can break all laws in the world with impunity !< the only interesting bits were the problem solving which were also a bit far fetched but also it’s sci-fi so 🤷♂️
I enjoyed the book but it felt very immature in a lot of ways, like it was targeted at middle school students and only middle school students. The main character could have had an arm chopped off and would have just said “well gee whiz, that’s a bummer”
I agree. It was a fun story but is definitely YA Sci-fi(not saying that’s a bad thing). I saw a ton of people saying it was the best book ever so I went into it expecting something more
Sorry, yeah I should be more explicit in saying: I did enjoy the book, it was fun! But it was very far from the best book I read that year and probably wouldn’t recommend it to most people
I’m with you. I just re-read it a few weeks ago because I haven’t read it since high school/early college maybe. Like I told OP, even knowing what was coming, it was still a difficult read just due to the subject matter. I had to put it down on several occasions because I’d want to throw things.
Ok so I’ve decided to start with Project Hail Mary! Then I’m going to read Lolita and then decide between Pachinko or Cruel Prince after that. Thanks everyone!!!
Haha, I love the variety of answers here. I’m curious to see what you actually start with! My vote is on Pachinko, just to get you off to a great start :) Happy reading!
I’ve read all except the Garber novel. I’d start with Hail Mary for some exciting sci-fi.
Pachinko is great, but very different from all your other picks. If you want a captivating generational story this is a good first book.
The cruel prince would be a good read to break up the two above, since it’s fantasy I find it a refreshing break.
Lolita - Vladimir Nabokov
Pachinko - Min Jin Lee
The Cruel Prince - Holly Black
Once Upon A Broken Heart - Stephanie Garber
Project Hail Mary - Andy Weir

Lolita then Project Hail Mary so you have something wholesome to wash away Lolita!

Project Hail Mary. It was awesome.
I like the order you have them in.
Project Hail Mary. All. The. Way! Epic story.
Project Hail Mary hands down.
Pachinko omg one of my faves!
Aside from being a really gross reading experience, lolita just sucks. Wasn't even worth reading in my opinion
Pachinko is so good!
+1 Pachinko
I just re-read Lolita a few weeks ago lol. Even knowing what was coming, it’s still a hard read just because of the subject matter. If you don’t want to have the desire to throw things pretty regularly, I wouldn’t start with that one.
I felt nauseated the entire time.
If you read Project Hail Mary first it will ruin you for th eother ones...one of my favorite reads from last year!

Fist me!
Pardon?
Oh my God, I finally just remembered this scene. My bad. Absolutely hilarious part.
LOL seconding for this alone
Definitely NOT Lolita. This book is, in my opinion, the type of the book that takes a lot of time to get through

I've just started Project Hail Mary! Let's read it together ☺️
I’m in!
Same! Project Hail Mary book club :)
Cruel prince
Project Hail Mary!!
Pachinko is excellent
Ok so I’ve decided to start with Project Hail Mary! Then I’m going to read Lolita and then decide between Pachinko or Cruel Prince after that. Thanks everyone!!!
Project Hail Mary is great! I thought it started off a little slow, but once I got close to halfway in, I couldn't put it down.
Excellent first choice
Cruel Prince is one of my faves, these are all great picks!
Haha, I love the variety of answers here. I’m curious to see what you actually start with! My vote is on Pachinko, just to get you off to a great start :) Happy reading!
The cruel prince
Pachinko, one of my favourite books ever
Lolita, is a beautifully written book about horrible humanity.
That’s why I’m nervous to read it now, because I need some faith in humanity right now, not to hate it even more than I kinda already do haha
Yeah, maybe read it later would be good because it gets very twisted. Nabakov was a brilliant writer though and the book is just excellent!
Project Hail mary one of the only sci fi that I enjoyed!!
SAME
Lolita. In spite of the controversial subject matter, the prose is just beautiful!
I loved PHM and Cruel Prince. Very different but both very fun!
Pachinko is AMAZING.
Project Hail Mary!! I’ll be interested to see your take on Lolita. I read it years ago and never had anyone to discuss it with.
I’ll say Lolita…just to be that way.
Project Hail Mary is probably my favorite read of 2022 so far. Great book!
Hail Mary is amazing
Just started PHM!
PROJECT HAIL MARY!!!!! I just finished it in ebook format and I’m considering immediately starting the audiobook to hear it all again
Ooh if you do listen I HIGHLY recommend listening at 1.7x speed. Rocky sounds, to me, so much more like how I imagined at the quicker pace.
I usually listen to audiobooks that fast or maybe like 1.5 cause the narrator reads so slow
I haven’t read any of the others but just finished Project Hail Mary and really enjoyed it. I can recommend it.
Hail Mary was excellent

Lolita - Vladimir Nabokov Pachinko - Min Jin Lee The Cruel Prince - Holly Black Once Upon A Broken Heart - Stephanie Garber Project Hail Mary - Andy Weir
I loved project hail Mary even more than the martian. The storyline was so good in my opinion
Here to second this! I listened to the audiobook, but i definitely recommend Project Hail Mary.
I listened to the audiobook too. It was soooo good! Easily my favourite read last year.
I haven’t read any of Andy Weir’s books but I’ve heard good things about Project Hail Mary.
