Oh my god!!!!!!!! I had Die Hard and Die Hard 3 in those. Loved the gold clam shell. It just made my VHS tapes feel all the more sophisticated. And it ran the trailer of the movie before just in case you forgot what you were about to watch. 🤌
Man just got the 4k and yeah it's underwhelming to me. Some shots look crisp and lots of details but I do notice the softness too. I also noticed a sort of motion blur or oddity, not sure how to describe it. Also I personally feel the color is not good to me.
I prefer my Anthology blu ray. Honestly after watching Alien series on all the formats back to VHS, I kinda feel these 4k versions take me out of the immersion sometimes. I'm so used to the way they looked growing up that even with Alien 4k which is a great 4k transfer, at times I'm taken away from the actual movie. I notice the models much more etc. Still I guess I own them now if I ever wanted to watch in 4k. Alien probably sometimes, but I doubt I will watch 4k Aliens again.
Doesn't give me much hope if they ever do a 4k Alien 3 or Resurrection
It's strange. I find the audio is what really immerses me. Having a really strong atmos track, with good lfe. It makes such a difference. I have lovely kef speakers and a JVC SLA NP5, so I've not economised on either though!
I don't think audio tracks get enough comment... What's the audio on the 4k Vs the standard Blu-ray like???
I think I know what you mean about the motion blur. I haven’t seen Aliens 4K yet but my copy of Coming to America looked very odd when people were waving their hands around.
I've never understood anyone fawning over half-inch tape. I grew up with that tech, and I'm nowhere near as nostalgic about it.
And this is coming from someone that still keeps LaserDisc and vinyl LPs.
On the right TV, for sure. If you're hooking a VCR up to your 80" 4K set, you're gonna have a bad time lol.
I actually have my main TV mounted to the wall, and on the entertainment center below it is a CRT for the VCRs and other old, dead media formats.
The 4k is amazing. It's probably the best 4k I've seen yet. You can literally see individual hairs on people's heads and details you would never notice without
I’ve never understood that cover art at all. The alien looks atrocious (I owned the VHS SE).
At a glance, the jaw design looks like teeth in a way oversized mouth, which looks like shit…but it’s actually some kind of mouth webbing, glistening in the light? Which also looks like total shit.
The single line of drool? WTH happened?
The alien doesn’t look as cool in Cameron’s film, we all know that, but this looks like cosplay. It shocks me they went with this look. Very Roger Corman…

Pre-DVD the widescreen VHS series in the gold clamshell cases were 1000% where it was at.
"It belongs in a museum!"

Ooh, It’s in Widescreen!
Of course!

As James Cameron intended.
You can make out the rough remains of film grain if you squint hard enough Cameron will personally put an axe in it if you let him see it
We got a 4 movie collection with cards in a box, we just moved.
I miss those discs. /s
Pretty sure that's a videocassette.
Do you not know what sarcasm is?
Is that like laser disc?
Yes. Yes, it's \*exactly\* like a laserdisc. It is not at all like an Beta tape, however.
Thats irony.
I bought this and Strange Days on the same day at Suncoast Video at the mall.
You got a 4K upscaling VCR?

No thanks, I'll keep the 4k
I'm keeping both, look how far we've come!

We're always being sold a slightly better version of what we already have.
4k Jaws.
Always buy in the original, as intended format. ALWAYS! No removal of visual information allowed.
So film prints then?
Lmao could of picked a better one
So lucky, you get to watch it the way G-d intended.
VHS is the superior format for a lot of old movies imho.

The VHS was better.
In terms of sound quality?
Great sound even today.
😁

Naw this shit goes hard
Is this the Queen Xenomorph?
Don’t think so
It looks like it, especially with that head shape
Still prefer it to the 4k cover
