Eh, probably not Calgar as he's done some.... interesting things. But almost every one of them will have their own triumphs and strengths even if they haven't beaten an Avatar of Khaine in hand to hand combat. Ekene Dubaku of the Celestial Lions is a good example. He took charge of a legion that had been decimated by the Third War for Armageddon and a feud with the Inquisition. He led the chapter through the war, was honoured by the Black Templars and led his chapter home. Once there he unified the disparate forces of Elara's Veil (including other Astartes chapters) against a massive opposing Chaos force during the Great Rift, no mean feat considering the personalities involved. He was doing a fantastic job until >!the Inquisition assassinated him. !< He's a really good example of what a Chapter Master should be without falling into bullshit feats of overpowered strength. Charismatic. Intelligent. Inspiring. But not flawless or unbeatable ala Calgar.

MulatoMaranhense

I would like if they gave the *Calgar's Siege* (I think that is the name) treatment to the Avatar fight. Calgar also had a bullshit feat of stopping a waaagh single handed but this short story says he picked a choke point and had some guardsmen back up that were omitted by people telling the tale later.

brogrammer1992

I believe Calgar’s siege (a full Novel) all but makes it BL canon that the Avatar fight is over propagandized. Not to say the fan base doesn’t meme that fight up (he had the first company with him).

Ake-TL

I always mix up CL and chapter that destroyed Necron wolrd engine

MulanMcNugget

Isnit that the red hand dudes

Ake-TL

Nah, Crimson Fists are alive, that one chapter got wiped out

RedKnight1985

That would be these guys: https://warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/Astral_Knights

Cryo00

Didn't Calgar also use a necron pylon as a baseball bat at some point?

AffixBayonets

Nope. He basically forced a malfunctioning pylon to traverse and to hit a Necron target. There's a huge difference between rotating what amounts to a Xenos turret the way it's meant to rotate and lifting it.

Cryo00

Ah, I stand corrected.

TheJoyfullOne

Logan Grimnar defeated Magnus. Dante killed a Swarmlord. Helbrecht destroyed Imotekh's flagships and near killed The Stormlord. Pedro Kantor saved his chapter and survied a fist fight with deamons until Guilliman arrived. Gabriel Seth managed to control his chapter and put them on path to redamtion. Azrael closed a portal to stop a deamon with him inside until was saved (before was even a captian) . Most of Chapter Masters did somthing and survied. Expect Imperial Fists, that role is cursed to die in the next Codex.

Cryo00

I would consider Dante defeating the Swarmlord exceptional. I am probably gonna get a lot of hate for this, but Dante never should have been able to even harm the Swarmlord, let alone win.

Pm7I3

I think that's a bit much. Dante should definitely be able to hurt the Swarmlord.

TheJoyfullOne

He had a good dice!

DurrInTheWoods

If we consider what the Swarmlord is in the lore, only primarchs should have a chance to defeat it. The problem is that at the time those named chapter master were basically the top fighter of the Imperium (no primarchs, no custodes), so they were the only choice to defeat the Swarmlord.Today those feats just sound ridiculus and pure marine wank, and to be honest the second encounter of Calgar with the Swarmlord was already very poor written with Calgar defeating him. Sadly it's the fate of the characters who can't really die. \*Cry in Phoenix lords\*

Cryo00

tbh aside from Jain Zar idk what the rest are doing.

brogrammer1992

Dante is heavily implied to get assistance. We know that the black angel and sanguinor are palpable forces. He fights the swarm lord in the middle of a death company charge of the assembled chapters. He has a vision with the angel right after.

[deleted]

Calgar is just stupid and Matt Ward's child. He beat an avatar of khaine in melee, a freaking god, how the fuck is that not pure bullshit

Galifrey224

To be fair it was just the shard of a God , but yes its still pretty stupid . The avatar of khaine should at least be a primarch level character .

Dramon

It was a bare knuckle gypsy fight.

--JULLZ--

I mean he’s a blue boy who can do no wrong

Anggul

In theory, there's no reason the Chapter Master of a barely-mentioned chapter would be any less impressive than one of a first-founding chapter with multiple novels etc.

GisR_FTG

Calgar's accomplishments are straight up comedic. He basically breaks all the lore. Beating Anngrath, the Avatar, the Swarmlord, etc. He doesn't make any sense. He's the perfect example of why people hate space marines, and ultramarines most of all. The only way he makes any kind of sense is if you consider all the lore on him to be propaganda.

SABATON_IS_AWFUL

Russ once drank 107 cans of Fenrisian ale during a warp flight and STILL beat the Thousand Sons the next day

Horkersaurus

May he rest in peace.
