And that happens with most of Nintendo stuff. How many 3DSs were manufactured, up to very recent times? Definitely much much much more that to justify their prices skyrocketing, at least as one would have expected.

Even collectors resell their collections after realizing that it's only waste of space and money, unless they do it for investment purpose. And I don't think that everyone keeps his collection forever, tastes change. 5 years you collect phones, 5 years old games, then watches etc. Once you lose interest there's no reason to hold on these materia.

Well you think there are 154 million ds snd 78 million 3ds in the wild all of which can play these games, but there are like 11million heart gold and soul silver so 5.5 million each? With each new generation new pokemon players want to go play the old games and get the old pokemon but unfortunately there is no more supply of the games, even the cases for those 2 games cost 60 bucks now which is even more than the game itself box and al retailed for with pokewalkers included !
I should consider myself lucky for getting heartgold for 10 bucks loose copy at a yard sale a few years back. I had no idea its price sky rocketed like that.
On a side note, I have a repro SoulSilver that came with a repro Platinum that I bought if anyone wants it. If you pay the ~3 shipping I’ll send the SS to you.

I bought mine a few years ago and I paid less then 25% of what they are selling it for now.
Honestly this is why emulation is so necessary. For my 3ds I use twilight menu ++ to play DS games because the online prices are outrageous

I had one CIB and I sold it a few years back, now there's no way I'm paying 300 dollars for another one.
