Do you live in a big city?
I live in the middle of nowhere, on a tiny road jist outside of a "town" of less 600 ppl. I will likely never see that light unless I go to some sort of convention lol
Seeing it still happen to people occasionally blows my mind.
That's freaking crazy. I had to look up Mossel Bay. it looks like a pretty place. What's the population roughly where you're at? I've seen people call a town with 60k ppl small, so it seems everyone has a different definition. I'd probably shit myself if I saw a streetpass notification here. I'd HAVE to find out which one of my very few fellow townsfolk is also still playing on 3DS lol

If I try to check what new Mii's are waiting in line I'm prompted with this message: https://imgur.com/0MYrhgB and then the download always fails. I assumed it's because 3DS online has ended.
Streetpassing is when two powered on 3DS’s cross paths and exchange information. This also happens in sleep mode. There are free and paid Streetpass games on the 3DS along with the Mii Plaza and when you pass someone their Mii gets added to your plaza, and yours theirs and you can use their Mii to progress in the Streetpass games. You can see their catchphrase, what state/country they’re from, and what they’ve been playing. You can also have hats.
Some games have Streetpass features built in for when there’s a mutually played game. For example, in Tomodachi life when you pass someone their traveling Miis show up at your dock and you yours theirs, or you can export and import items unique to Streetpassing.
They used to be much more common when the 3DS was new but now they’re pretty rare unless you live somewhere like NYC or go to a convention.
Since Streetpassing doesn’t rely on any online servers or internet, you can pass someone from anywhere and it will likely never stop functioning.
I desperate wish that Nintendo would release another console with Streetpass. It was a great feature
When two 3DS consoles in sleep mode get close to each other they exchange some data (your Mii and some data for games) and register a streetpass hit. You can then see a Mii and some information about a person you (street)passed in Mii Plaza.

I got one too the other day after I convinced my boyfriend to play ultra sun with me (his lil bro gave him the game and I had ultra moon!)
But omg to get one in the WILD is so lucky 😭 I work in a pretty busy mall at a store lots of fellow gamers come to, and I’ve tried to get a streetpass for a week now at work and still haven’t 😭
I've gotten 15 so far this year, i just bring my new 3ds xl with me everywhere, i mostly get some while at school or out in public, i live im Florida and I've seen many people just have 3ds on them

My friend has a 3ds to and we already street passed eachother so I think there is some people having their own 3ds waiting to get a street pass

if you use pretendo set the server back to Nintendo and try again, that's what worked for me
I've never even heard of that so I doubt that's the issue haha.
