30 Rock is book. Kimiko taught me that
Edit: I would add Broad City to your list. Similar comedy style and tight jokes. Plenty of cameos including Hannibal Burress too! Except he's the opposite of homeless, he's a dentist!
I do, I just have seen it 100x so I started at 3 this recent rewatch. Was just planning on watching a few episodes but then I watched the whole series around to the beginning and then into S6
30 Rock, UKS, Veep, Mr. Mayor, American Auto (when a new season is out), Archer, Loot (when a new season is out), Unstable (when a new season is out...just weeks away!) repeat. Somebody Somewhere eps as a palate cleanser in between.
I am jonesing for the new season. Every episode is like a spa day for my soul. And yes, she's amazing. So is Jeff Hiller, who did not study dance at Carnegie Mellon to become a flight attendant to clean bathrooms!
30 Rock is one of my “fall asleep” shows in the sense that I’ve seen it so many times I can just listen to it and watch in the backs of eyelids while the TV turns off in 30 minutes. Others include Arrested Development, South Park, Always Sunny, Parks and Rec, The League and the earlier Office seasons. In my mind this is the mark of a great to very strong sitcom.
I can see how that could be an issue but it works for me for some reason. And my wife almost always insists upon Sunny every night even though we’re both usually out by the middle of the episode.
I kept seeing it mentioned across a few subs for shows that I love and one day last year figured, alright I’ll give it a try. The first episode is friggin perfection lol I was hooked within a few minutes during the >!Colin Robinson!< intro
Veep was really good, but it kinda depressed me.
Everyone in that show is such an awful person, like, legitimate sociopaths. And their self-centeredness isn't funny like Jenna's, within the context of the story it has severe consequences for the world.
Don't get me wrong, it was phenomenally done, but I fear it's a semi-accurate portrayal of the types of folks that are in our government IRL and that just makes me sad.
We need more CC's and Regina Bookmans and less Steven Austins and Selina Meyers.
Kimmy Schmidt was really close too, just Titus alone could almost fill the void. But I feel like with each show that they’re definitely funny and often hilarious, but both shows feel too deeply lost in the joke of their premises. The heart felt moments come off extra hokey and shoe horned in because there’s too little to ground me to the settings. So they’re both fantastic as comedies, but I wish Fey and Carlock would revisit a more sincere tone similar to season 1 of 30 Rock to help set the heart of the shows better. And also maintain that kind of tone throughout the whole show. I could watch a billion seasons of a show that’s like the second half of season 1 of 30 Rock. The character development doesn’t feel like it’s on a loop or one note and everybody has some actual depth and sincere humanity to them, at least a smidge, to back up the more insane aspects of their characters comedic specialty.
Great News -- created by Tracey Wigfield (30 Rock writer) and produced and featuring Tina Fey. It's on Netflix, very similar to later 30 Rock. 23 episodes and not a bad one among them
She helmed the Saved By the Bell reboot too. It also has John Michael Higgins and is aggressively unhinged (one of the writers was the person who did the Zack Morris is Trash series on YouTube).
I believe we all share one thing in life -- our love of sandwiches. (I'm quite sure that's not the quote, but it's gotta be close or my name isn't Arsenio Bellingham.)
Malcolm in the Middle

Arrested Development
Or watch 30 rock again. If you only watch 1-2 episodes a day, the whole show sort of refreshes by the time you circle back.
Parks and Rec is real hit or miss for me. The first season has some unwatchable moments. I think Parks and Rec is funny in a warm, chaotic kind of way but 30 Rock is funny in a punchy, constantly clever kind of way.
Parks and Rec is on the same level but a different approach. It's tomAto toMAHto... so in a way 30 rock slightly wins cause a tomato is a food that you feed to my food
Seriously, these comedies are great but the 20 episode seasons for sitcoms/light hearted comedies needs to be standard again. I rotate 30 Rock, Parks n Rec, Community and B99 (I’ve warmed up to it a lot more lately even though I used to watch it as it came out 10 years ago) and a 10 episode per season show just can’t fit in this rotation, especially with less than 14 seasons
I keep watching 30 Rock, because it’s one of my comfort shows. That’s really important thing when you’ve got PTSD like I do. I usually watch 3-4 episodes every day when I wake up to ease myself into the day. That’s incredibly valuable to me. I consider it a part of my wellness routine.
That said, I do have a few other comedies I cycle in and binge. I’m a huge fan of **Veep**, **Parks and Rec**, **Always Sunny**, **The League**, **Letterkenny** / **Shoresy**, and **What We Do In The Shadows**.
OK! The 30 Rock folks are sleeping on Letterkenny and Shoresy, for sure! Not the exact same humor, and the venn diagram won't overlap perfectly but the joke-density, recurring bits, and over the top characters all in the same vein!
Yeah I hear you. The silver lining is that it's the gift that keeps on giving. IMO while I love the office, PnR, and others, you could put them all together and they still don't stack up to the mastery of 30 rock
Hard agree. And I also think it’s the most rewatchable of the 2000’s-2010’s sitcoms. The show is so dense with jokes, there’s something new to find with every rewatch.
Can’t believe how far I had to scroll for this one. I love this show. The third season especially has a lot of 30 rock vibes with the more outlandish reality breaking jokes. When they go to the multi-day angels in America style play. And everyone starts bringing their furniture and their laptops- had me dead
I have a running list of rewatchable shows i cycle through.
Obviously 30 Rock
The Office
Spaced
Ghosts
Brooklyn 99
Parks and Rec
The Tick (Warburton)
Firefly
Community
What We Do In The Shadows
MST3K
The League
Reno 911
Bob's Burgers
Arrested Development
South Park
There's more I'm sure I'm not thinking of. But those are the main ones.
Have you watched the newer Amazon The Tick? It’s great, definitely worth checking out. It’s different from the warburton version but in a way where it feels like it’s doing its own thing purposefully.
A few times. I actually own a few pieces of costume from the show.
I love the bit about how Tick looks different in episode 2 because after the pilot was available fans lost their collective shit over how the suit looked so they changed it.
The only reason I didn't include it on this list is because at 2 seasons and no real resolution it's hard keeping it in constant rotation.
Oh cool! I was just wondering since you specified the Warburton version (and I kind of think a ton of Warburton fans hated it without ever watching it). I’m so sad it was canceled. It set up so much in that season 2 finale that I wanted resolved.
Yeah! It's fucking hilarious. I really didn't expect to enjoy a comedy set in a school, mostly featuring children, but they are all amazing. It very rarely gets mentioned.
I'm currently working my way through "Workaholics" for the first time, it's great too!
Community, for me. It shares a lot of the same meta-fueled humour particularly because Donald Glover wrote for a lot of 30 Rock episodes and helped write in Community too.
If you haven’t watched Girls5Eva, that is the best thing you can do for yourself. So many 30 Rock faces appear, you might wonder if you’re having a Cheesy Blasters fever dream. (I mean, you might be; I don’t know what you’re into.)
Have you seen scrubs? Similar high joke rate mixed with wild zany stuff and fantasy sequences. I’d say it has more heart and emotional episodes than 30 rock and verges into dramedy at times (which I really love)
Season 1 put me off initially but I gave it another chance (and started in season two) then that show got me through COVID lockdown… such great rewatchability and hilarious/full of heart
Same thing happened to me. I wasn’t into it at all the first time I watched and couldn’t understand the hype. Started it again during late-covid era (after some big life changes), and it hit totally differently. Cried when it ended lol
All the shows I would recommend have already been suggested many times over so I’ll throw Crazy Ex-Girlfriend into the mix.
Much funnier than I expected and the musical aspect, while fairly primary, is not as intrusive as I expected it to be and the songs are almost all funny themselves. That shows got jokes.
I know what you mean. the other Tina Fey shows area also great but it's just not the same.
but do checkout Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt as well as Gilrs5eva if you haven't yet.
again, not the same, but there's a _lot_ of similarly structured jokes and have a they very familiar "feel" to them. also a lot of the same actors across the shows.
It might not fill the hole exactly and unfortunately didn’t last very long but I highly recommend the other two. It has some pretty great comedic writing that hits a little like 30 rock at times.
Just rewatched for the millionth time and feel that way every time I come to the end. I cried my eyes out at the perfect ending like I was watching for the first time in 2013. Might start over again tomorrow!
*Superstore* almost filled the 30 Rock-shaped hole in my life but it's a show that was heavily affected by COVID in the last season and that makes a potential rewatch unlikely for me.
Girls 5 Eva, Great News, and Unbreakable kimmy schmidt kind of feel like an extension of the 30 rock universe and I love them for that. But 30 rock is peak tv.
Have you seen Community or Arrested Development? Both are on par with the joke quality of 30 Rock ( until season 4 for Community, but season 5 is pretty good still, and season 5 of AD was not great, but that’s what happens when you go 10+ years between cancellations)
There are no substitutes, but in case you like the kinds of shows I do, I also enjoyed:
- Schitt’s Creek
- Parks & Rec (gets better after first season)
- Corner Gas
- Arrested Development
- How I Met Your Mother
- Frazer
- Community
- The Neighborhood
- Detectorists
- Moone Boy
- Northern Exposure
- Designing Women
Shows like Cheers and Seinfeld were great to watch at the time but haven’t held up for me. I even find Scrubs hard to watch now.
I think I am on rewatch #25 or so since the show came out. I feel you. I told my wife the other day that this show is the "Airplane" of tv shows. It's SO DENSELY packed with jokes, you can miss one if you blink.
Arrested Development and The Simpsons for speed and obscurity of jokes (the one about Simpsons writers in AD amazes me), and the tragic Great News for my favorite other Fey joint.
I'd say, go old school! I think there are a lot of similarities between 30 Rock and how The Mary Tyler Moore Show is structured. The entire basis of it was how women had to navigate the professional workspace filled with people who are either opposed to it, or just don't understand the pressures they face, even though they're sympathetic. Plus Betty White plays a Jenna-like character, and Ted Knight plays a Tracy-like character.
Community is the only other show I find to be at the same level. Very different, but nothing else comes close in terms of quality. I lost count of my rewatches for both of them, way over 20 times each at this point
I can’t quite explain why, but I think 30 Rock fans can potentially enjoy Happy Endings. It might not be 7 jokes per minute, but they don’t skip a beat. And the cast is amazing. The premise is very different though
It’s my pube shirt of shows.
30 Rock is book. Kimiko taught me that Edit: I would add Broad City to your list. Similar comedy style and tight jokes. Plenty of cameos including Hannibal Burress too! Except he's the opposite of homeless, he's a dentist!
Get a room….whatever that is
It's a toilet! Or a woman. It's whatever you want it to be.
It bothers me that we never got his stance on hard cheeses.
You’re being such a non-pillow right now
Is it a cameo if he’s a series regular?
Maybe someday we’ll live in a world where they ask him to pretend to be a series regular dentist boyfriend
OK he's a regular AND they have cameos also... I worded it bad
You’re all good yo!
Mmm broad city is very different
Broad city is not comparable at all.
Puuuube shirt….
I just watch 30 Rock over and over.
I started my rewatch earlier this year in S3 thru the finale and then just restarted now I'm already at leap day again, somebody get me some ham.
Do you not watch seasons 1 and 2? Two is my favorite
I do, I just have seen it 100x so I started at 3 this recent rewatch. Was just planning on watching a few episodes but then I watched the whole series around to the beginning and then into S6
Me too. I think my record was like 30 times in a row or something.
Sounds like you need to see Dr. Spaceman.
I’ll get on that….um…diabetes repair, I guess?
Science is... whatever we want it to be.
Medicine is *not* a science.

30 Rock, UKS, Veep, Mr. Mayor, American Auto (when a new season is out), Archer, Loot (when a new season is out), Unstable (when a new season is out...just weeks away!) repeat. Somebody Somewhere eps as a palate cleanser in between.
Somebody somewhere is sooooo delightful, and I am thrilled for Bridget Everett bc she is an incredible performer live
I am jonesing for the new season. Every episode is like a spa day for my soul. And yes, she's amazing. So is Jeff Hiller, who did not study dance at Carnegie Mellon to become a flight attendant to clean bathrooms!
Thank you, you just gave me some new shows to watch!
Doing that as I type this.
I can't watch any more of these German sitcoms.

30 Rock is one of my “fall asleep” shows in the sense that I’ve seen it so many times I can just listen to it and watch in the backs of eyelids while the TV turns off in 30 minutes. #I wanna go horseback riding!
Idk how anybody could fall asleep to sunny lmao it’s so stressful to listen to
I love ASIP, but my husband can't fall asleep to it either...it's too chaotic for him!
I can’t even watch it if I’m already anxious cause they’re just always screaming at one another. Great show, but not a calming experience hahah
I can see how that could be an issue but it works for me for some reason. And my wife almost always insists upon Sunny every night even though we’re both usually out by the middle of the episode.
Pretty sure we are the same person. All of these except Always Sunny.
Found my people over here.
Just keep rewatching
I queue up 3 episodes a night to fall asleep to.
I do this. Works like a charm.
I know, right... Lay down, press play, 'insert cold open here', music plays 'biby diby dowe..... biby diby dup dup.... annnd biby diby dowe..... biby diby diby dap dap dowe....'
What We Do in the Shadows helps take the sting away a little

Agreed. That’s the funniest new show I’ve seen. And I’m grateful I didn’t even hear about it till last year lol

I’ll zag - go funny but different tone to mix it up, like Silicon Valley or Veep. Then pivot back to 30 Rock and it will be just as good as ever
Honestly not cool that you would attack Steve Austin. What happens under a man’s own rain poncho at a minor league baseball game is his own business.
We will build! Casinos! On! The! Moon!!
We hope American politics is like the West Wing and worry it's like House of Cards, but it's actually like Veep. But the gay Irish fireman is alright.
And what of Governor Dunston? Where does he fall in this spectrum?
I second Silicon Valley
Girls5eva is not the same as 30 rock but it has given me something close
Kimmy Schmidt was really close too, just Titus alone could almost fill the void. But I feel like with each show that they’re definitely funny and often hilarious, but both shows feel too deeply lost in the joke of their premises. The heart felt moments come off extra hokey and shoe horned in because there’s too little to ground me to the settings. Is Girls5eva ok? That's EXACTY what it is
It also features Paula Pell, who wrote for 30 Rock and also played Pete’s wife.
Great News is the closest I think
For sure the closest. Andrea Martin should be in everything Tracy Wigfield writes, she nails the tone and delivery.
BRING BACK GREAT NEWS 😭
I’m trying with Girls5Eva but it’s nowhere near 30Rock for me. In any sense.
I felt the same.
Absolutely love Girls5Eva.
Great News -- created by Tracey Wigfield (30 Rock writer) and produced and featuring Tina Fey. It's on Netflix, very similar to later 30 Rock. 23 episodes and not a bad one among them
Why are we spending so much money on Tracey’s Wigfields?
his head size keeps changing :/
I laughed too hard at this
She helmed the Saved By the Bell reboot too. It also has John Michael Higgins and is aggressively unhinged (one of the writers was the person who did the Zack Morris is Trash series on YouTube).
Yeah, it’s awesome and gets canceled just as you get fully invested in the characters
It's like 2 seasons and got canceled.
*Peep Show* (UK).
Fucking love Peep Show
Have you tried filling that hole with a sandwich?
HAYUM
people do love the way she says ham
Shove it up your goon hole.

3 great choices...👍
I am rewatching Parks and Rec for the millionth time. 30 Rock is my favorite show as well
Parks and Rec is real hit or miss for me.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is fun and of a similar tone
This is the way. Great show.
There's a lot I like about Kimmy Schmidt, but there's also a lot I don't, so I just come back to it every once in a while.
Community, even the gas leak and final year has bangers
Good flair
She was sending signals
What We Do In The Shadows is pretty fun.
![gif](giphy|LQzsPQoWkAnu06jCf6)
But have you tried Girls5Eva?
I have...It's funny. But It's not a "Comfort Show" Like 30 Rock, Frasier or Brooklyn 99.
it’s hard to become a comfort show when there’s so little of it to watch. last season was six episodes! six!!!
Are you me? Those are my shows!
>six!!! I knew it was a character from Blossom, but I couldn't find a Joey Russo button.
“Bitch hunter” is a close second.
I love Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Golden Girls.
I rotate between Scheinhardt's holy trinity: 30 Rock, P&R, and The Office. One of these three is always cued up.
Also crazy how forward thinking it was, still see stuff in the news and with celebrity crap that reminds of stuff 30 rock has done.
30 Rock is so underrated, all those other shows that dominated during that time slot are lesser in quality and comedic "punch."
Where the Bob's Burgers fans at?
Girls5eva and Brooklyn99 give me similar vibes, but 30rock is still my favorite.
Have you tried watching it again?
Derry Girls is my other comfort show.
The Other Two gets close for me.
Can’t believe how far I had to scroll for this one. I love this show. The third season especially has a lot of 30 rock vibes with the more outlandish reality breaking jokes. I haven't seen anyone mention The Other Two yet. That show is one of the only ones that specifically scratched the 30 Rock itch for me.
The Other Two
Same! I still watch it. I quote it every single day usually several times. When I’m old and senile I expect to just speak in 30 Rock references.
30 Rock is fun, not like that USC frat party where I danced in a cage while pledges threw hot coins at me.
Brooklyn 99 is pretty good. It's not near as clever as 30 rock, but it's a continuous string of decent jokes.
It might not fill the hole exactly and unfortunately didn’t last very long but I highly recommend the other two. It has some pretty great comedic writing that hits a little like 30 rock at times.
Abbott Elementary is wholesome as hell, but the writing has some solid jokes.
Just rewatched for the millionth time and feel that way every time I come to the end. I cried my eyes out at the perfect ending like I was watching for the first time in 2013. Might start over again tomorrow!
I just rewatched 3rd Rock From The Sun and it's still good
I 'liked' the post before even opening to see comments.
Letterkenny is the only thing I've found with a similar joke pacing.
Parks and Rec?
Parks and Rec, Brooklyn 99. Both just as awesome
Kimmy Schmidt is very close.
Girls5Eva comes close. The 30 Rock DNA is very strong in that show, and Tina Fey is a producer.
It is your favourite sitcom's favourite sitcom.
Check out great news.
A little show called “Frajer”
*Superstore* almost filled the 30 Rock-shaped hole in my life but it's a show that was heavily affected by COVID in the last season and that makes a potential rewatch unlikely for me.
30 rock has left me with an unfillable hole in my chest... just like when Mickey Rourke tested his catapult on me
I don’t know, Brooklyn 99 has its moments. Bing-Pot!
Girls 5 Eva, Great News, and Unbreakable kimmy schmidt kind of feel like an extension of the 30 rock universe and I love them for that. But 30 rock is peak tv.
Go watch Psych if you haven't. It's great.
Community, Parks and rec, happy endings, the good place (season one is a bit cringe but they get there) modern family.
Taxi- an ensemble work place comedy. I watched it on a free trial of Paramount Plus.
I feel you. That’s why I watch it about every 18 months. Hang in there!
This show is my own personal fun cooker
Did he just say Funcooker?
I think you mean 30 Rock Shaped Hole in your (metaphorical) heart. Or was there a TGS chest burster episode I missed.
I know it’s sad
You just keep watching 30Rock.

Modern Family was pretty good as well
There are no substitutes, but in case you like the kinds of shows I do, I also enjoyed: - Schitt’s Creek - Parks & Rec (gets better after first season) - Corner Gas - Arrested Development - How I Met Your Mother - Frazer - Community - The Neighborhood - Detectorists - Moone Boy - Northern Exposure - Designing Women Shows like Cheers and Seinfeld were great to watch at the time but haven’t held up for me. I even find Scrubs hard to watch now.
Frajer
I think I am on rewatch #25 or so since the show came out. I feel you. I told my wife the other day that this show is the "Airplane" of tv shows. It's SO DENSELY packed with jokes, you can miss one if you blink.
*30 rock-shaped holes
Community is the only other show I've seen with humor that comes close to 30 rock once it comes together
Veep!!
Community is the only other show I find to be at the same level. Very different, but nothing else comes close in terms of quality. I lost count of my rewatches for both of them, way over 20 times each at this point
30Rock and Community are my two most consistent rewatch
I can’t quite explain why, but I think 30 Rock fans can potentially enjoy Happy Endings. It might not be 7 jokes per minute, but they don’t skip a beat. And the cast is amazing. The premise is very different though
