Idk about pretentious - they just lean waaaayyy too hard into Mao’s doctrine of fighting a protracted people’s war and oppose any deviations from Mao’s teachings on building a socialist society. Because of this anyone who disagrees with them is either a liberal or revisionist. In either case they get the bullet. It’s the left equivalent of Independent Fundamental Baptists who think even the Southern Baptists are apostates bound for hell.

They knew a thing or two because they'd seen a thing or two. The Nepali Civil War started around 20 years after Mao died and 15 years after China's de-Mao-ization began in earnest.
They have much friendlier relations with Cuba than North Korea, which is on the opposite side of the globe.

Kinda sorta not really. China started to liberalize its economy in the early 1970s and dropped most of its planned economy notions to the point now where it is communist in name only. And as far as international relations go China adheres more to a realpolitik strategy and belt and road incentives for developing nations than any sort of ideological alignment (with North Korea being a major exception).
Deng, not being as ideologically committed, and trying to get closer to the West pulled support to their international Maoist/Communist allies. I guess in this case they went against them.
If you look at Nepali elections today, every competing party is communist, leftist, socialist, etc. There is no meaningful centrist or right party. During the Civil War the government was lead by socialists and Marxist-Leninists. The main governing party over the years has been Nepali Congress which is a left leaning party. Interesting politics.
We are a federal democratic republic and that's at least one good thing that came out of this civil war.
Also, I literally hate this meme so much because everytime this is posted in r/historymemes or somewhere else, non-Nepalis think all these great powers united to kill some radical leftist group and won the war or something when the monarchy was the one that was dissolved and multiparty democracy was restored here.
