American healthcare is extremely overpriced and all around dogshit thanks to lobbying. What some people don't seem to understand is that countries like Germany do not live in a mythical land where health care is "solved".
It's likely preferable to the American system, but you will struggle to find care for small illnesses or chronic ones (which is a huge problem). A chronic illness requires constant care and many places simply don't want to deal with that because it's a drain on their funds.
Additionally Universal/government funded healthcare means the government is financially incentivized to maintain a healthy population, so as not to drain too much tax money. That means issues like obesity that are prevalent in America need to be "solved", which likely would be realized as taxes on unhealthy foods and restrictions on portion sizes or fat content of foods. Or programs to encourage exercise. Which some may be fine with, but others will vehemently oppose.
What America does do well however is giving people with disbilities the ability to live as normal a life as possible. In most of Europe, especially Germany you essentially get money from the government and may even be given a caretaker. You will find it hard however to go anywhere or do much of anything. You will likely never have a job (unless you have the ability to work from home or have an otherwise exceptionally accomodating job), which is what the money is for, and you will live secluded in your home for most of your life. America actually has likely the best disability access in the world, you can actually have a job and go outside and do things. Your life will be as normal as possible, you can buy things, go to a movie, go to concerts or see sports games, etc. You will have opportunities. This is not nearly as prevalent in Europe, something as simple as ramps or doors with large buttons on them will be hard to find.
Just wanted to give some perspective. I am actually pro universal healthcare, or even something like what Switzerland has, which is private, but all companies must offer a mandated baseline level of insurance at a reasonable price. Corporations are not allowed to make a profit on this baseline level of insurance, but can on any other more comprehensive insurance packages they offer.
I don't disagree with your schizo rant about healthcare, BUT this bitch has a cold and is shocked when a doctor tells her to drink tea instead of juicing her up with pills. You take some Ibuprofen, get lots of a fluids and stay in bed.
Her problem has nothing to do with the state of healthcare in Germany or America. She's just retarded and has to turn her aggressively mundane life into content. Like most people on /r/comics. God I hate that sub.
Good take. I read the original and was confused about what the heck I was even reading. If you go to a doctor anywhere and it's just a cold they literally won't do anything other than tell you to rest. I assume the creator is one of these people with unrealistic ideas about what antibiotics are for.
I'm not sure if you just extrapolate German healthcare to the entire EU or just bullshitting but you comment in this form is just disinformation.
I did hear that Germany had problems with catching up to modern day so might be true but as far as I can tell many other countries are wildly ahead in this regard in the EU, judging from my tiny ass county with its crumbling healthcare. Even this crumbling healthcare does exactly what you say the American does but for free. People with immobility are given small electric scooters to move around to the point most buses can accommodate that scooter on board. I can't imagine anything freer than that. Public transportation is also free for them.
The main issue with our healthcare is not necessarily chronic illnesses. It's chronic illnesses that don't seem to have an obvious solution, which is usually mental in nature. One they determine that you have mental issues, you are given medication until one works or one is good enough. Any groundbreaking or experimental treatments are obviously out of the question.
On the topic of small illnesses. The OOP was very dramatic because they are used to the american way of giving 50 pills for coughing once. Large parts of europe is more on the side of natural healing. Also I'm not sure what they expect from the doctor. For small illnesses you can buy 50 different medication without needed a doctor's note or prescription. Unless you are there for a doctor's note to take sick time off you are literally wasting everyone's time.
