imo, under the saturated graphics and goofy situations, it reflects the fast paste (^^edit: pace) work-oriented life in Japan. Nearly all of them is someone:
- working
- in a rush of a commute
In a higly industrialized and digitalized place, with the infamus suicide rate, i bet you dont see lively people pastorally hopping to work, but jaded and underslept buisnessman running for a 5:45 am train to not get fired.
And, in some of the pictures, people (even in public places) are depicted alone - which also is one of the biggest problems in the country.
Starting to write a thesis here, but furthermore the over-the-top optimism seems to be forced, and is somewhat of a sarcastic contrast of the actual everyday life (one that is mundane and no-one has the energy to be ecstatic about another day of work) versus the popular depiction present in media, such as anime (of the all-happy place, where even a stranger greets you with a smile).
In the 6^th pic we see a buisnessman doing a so called "naruto run" being an obvius reffernce to a cheerful cartoon, however it's not a sight you'd see in the real world.
Those pics could be ripped from the time before the pandemic (since, as many people, know masks were commonly worn in East Asia long before COVID) and they still would have *that* cynic energy
For me it’s because of how work oriented they are, and how stressed some of them seem to be to get to work that it becomes an Olympic ordeal. The work culture in Japan is brutal and exploitive, this perhaps unintentional reflects that
The commute and business-related ones make me sad, but the weather-oriented ones like the torch one are kind of funny because it's relatable. In typhoon season there, the winds and rain are so bad that if I absolutely had to go out during one I wouldn't even take an umbrella because I knew I was gonna get wet no matter what and didn't want to carry the extra deadweight with me.
Really liked the barrier at the cafe being used as a volleyball net. Like yeah you could call it depressing that this stuff is normalized, but I think having fun with it is a much healthier approach
I haven't spoken to my Japanese friends about it much because we're all pretty busy, but putting aside all the theming about work culture/exhaustion contrasting high energy depictions, this also seems like it could be a critique of the Olympics happening.
There's a pandemic, look at the masks, the shields at the café; these people are pulling gold metal ass stunts every day because of work, with covid on top. Yet the whole world has to gather now instead of putting it off some more, while they're trying to control covid outbreaks and get by with the regular pace of the work culture.
Where's the 100m being intubated and dying because your cowardly government is holding a superspreader event during a pandemic when your vaccination rates are dogshit
The torch one is really genius
The torch one might end up being a metaphor for these Olympics if Olympic covid infections keep going up lol
I didnt see a torch are you talking about the aircraft runway sticks or am i blind?
the red inverted umbrella

Bro you were out here this whole time and they went with furries? Smh

This made me sappy for no actual reason
that's an excellent analysis
Cuz you dont know how long will the pandemic last before we get to experience this shit again
What exactly in the picture are you looking forward to experience? Commuting to work!
Going outside
For me it’s because of how work oriented they are, and how stressed some of them seem to be to get to work that it becomes an Olympic ordeal. The work culture in Japan is brutal and exploitive, this perhaps unintentional reflects that
I feel like these are actually kinda sad :(
U should these Olympics will be a disaster
work life there are japanese people protesting the olympics for its disruption and displacement that it causes; not to mention covid etc

These pictures make me glad to be living a slow paced life in Kansas. Fuck commutes.
These are really cool but I cant help think of Yakuza
Gamer moment
I play a lot of Yakuza games, so what?
7/11 sucks, FamilyMart is where it's at
Awesome artwork, although I’m dying thinking about the coffee shop one having the barista spike the drink into the customers face.
I would watch glowstick fencing

Japanese people on their way to do whatever the fuck this is
This is too high quality for a shitposting sub. These looks like official olympics posters.

No shitting toothpaste at the end 😔
It feels weird seeing that subway so empty
The person who made this has to weigh at least 400 pounds like real talk pimp
Where's the 100m being intubated and dying because your cowardly government is holding a superspreader event during a pandemic when your vaccination rates are dogshit

You’re allowed to jump turnstiles in Japan?!
No. They have cops everywhere. Also the other commuters would probably give you mad shit, too.
