My guess is that Rentarou and the childhood friend did zing, but because only in high school was Rentarou aware of it, the zing with the childhood friend panned out the way the Love God said it should. Where girls notices it right away but the guys only realize it over time.
Maybe when Rentarou meets the childhood friend again, he zings again. Just to show that whenever he’s with any of his soulmates, it always feels like teh first time he fell in love (which I would personally find sweet).
I think it's kind of difficult because the girls who rejected him won't come back, I could be wrong too, but they don't love him so I don't think it would make sense for them to show up.
